How your computer works, hardware and software from the inside

Understanding Bits and Bytes, and Viruses.  This seminar will cover what happens when you type, where does it go, how it is stored and how it is realized that it can never be deleted!  There will be a discussion of programs that can be purchased to help remove sensitive files such as financial or personal data or images, and programs that can help protect your computer from viruses and other dangerous actions.  Actions members can take to cleanup and speed up the computer will also be discussed.  It is designed for all CAP members, Senior and Cadet. 

 

Tactical Vulnerability in Leadership

We often expect that our leaders are see-all and know-all beings that have the answer to every question. This often adds a burden on our future leaders as well as those that choose who will be. Servant leaders and those that are skilled in leadership understand that tactical vulnerability is not a weakness but a tool that can empower others on the team to be able to develop leadership skills. This culture is also based on transparency and builds authenticity and trust. So how do we address tactical vulnerability and use it as a tool?

Management and Operation of CAP Vehicles

Learn the requirements laid out in the new transportation regulation CAPR-132-1 issued in May 2025.  Discussion on vehicle usage expectations, how to properly document COV usage, complete and submit the monthly vehicle inspection and usage form 132, obtaining a CAP driver license, including the new Driver Orientation Training in Absorb, vehicle binder and required contents, the use of vehicle credit cards - EFS card vs WEX card and maintenance procedures and payment.

This session will equip new and transferring adult members with practical steps to get involved, understand our mission, and discover career growth opportunities within the local CAP squadron—ensuring everyone feels welcome and ready to serve their community. 

 

Beyond the Core

In this session, we will examine how the CAP Core principles—Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect—are inextricably linked, not only with one another but also with other principles that may appear hidden, creating CAP's culture. Participants will gain practical knowledge of how all senior members can encourage and exemplify these ideals in daily CAP life and develop an understanding of the hidden values that strengthen CAP's Core Values, making them more than just words, but a way of life. 

 

CAPSIS Update: Know Before You Go!

In this seminar we will briefly review how to properly submit an SSO, what information is required and when, how relevant statements and photos are added, and WHO gets notified BEFORE you hit that SUBMIT button.  We will talk about the relationship between CAPSIS and CAPHEALTH, and how HSO’s and SO’s/MSOs should collaborate to maximize the efficiency of both platforms, while meeting reporting requirements.  

This presentation will also examine a data-driven approach to creating mitigation plans for significant safety occurrences, and how this might look in the future.  Current and future Review Officers will learn how to identify key causal factors and connect them to appropriate mitigation types. Attendees will leave with a framework for developing evidence-based mitigation plans that link data analysis to safety improvements. 

 

Incident Stress Management

In this seminar we will address a list of common questions about the NC Wing Critical Incident Stress Management Team and how it supports our members.  

 

Starlink 

Capt Ronnie Hicks 

 

This seminar will introduce you to Starlink and how important it is to keep communication up even during the worst time.  As you know CAP does not have priority using the Cell phone service like 1st responders do, so we must depend on other means which are our radios and internet.  Starlink has been shown to be a huge resource for those communications. 

 

Missing Aircraft Mission, a Case Study

This seminar will focus on the strategies and tactics used in ultimately locating a missing aircraft, albeit with a tragic ending. We will discuss the challenges that were compounded by the minimal information and hard facts of the flight even though the aircraft was well equipped, and the pilot was reasonably experienced. 

This seminar should prove valuable to IC staff, aircrew and ground team personnel, and Public Information Officers – both trainees and experienced members.

We will begin with a short overview of current and upcoming plans, but we will allocate much of the seminar to a question-and-answer session from the audience. Please bring your most probing questions for the operations teams and we will do our best to get them answered. 

 

FAA’s 5 Hazardous Attitudes

We all possess at least some of the traits in the FAA's Five Hazardous Attitudes. Being able to identify them on an individual level is a major step in reducing accidents and mishaps in our daily activities. In this presentation we will examine a real accident that occurred early in 2nd Lt. Hunter's flying career and how all five of these attitudes contributed.
