Vice Commander Operations

Biography – Lt Col Brendan P Kearns, CAP

Lt Col Kearns joined Civil Air Patrol in June 2010 as a member of the Apex Cadet Squadron.  He has held command positions at squadron level including Deputy Commander of Cadets and Squadron Commander as well as Group and Wing level staff assignments.  Lt Col Kearns served as the Wing Director of Finance from 2014 to 2017.  During his term as Wing Director of Finance he was selected as Civil Air Patrol’s Director of Finance of the Year in 2016.  Lt Col Kearns served as the Commander of Group 2 from 2017 until March 2019 when he assumed the role of Vice Commander – North and joined the Command Staff for the North Carolina Wing.  Lt Col Kearns also served as Commander of the North Carolina Wing Summer Encampment from 2017-2019.

Lt Col Kearns is an active participant in Civil Air Patrol's Emergency Services mission, holding several mission qualifications which include: Incident Commander Level 2, Ground Team Leader, Mission Observer and Airborne Photographer as well as others. He is also a Ranger 1st Class.  He served on Incident Command Staff during both the Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Florence Disaster Relief missions in 2016 and 2018 and was an Incident Commander and also served on the Air Desk at the State Emergency Operations Center during Hurricane Florence in 2019.  He has served on staff for many years at the bi-annual Ranger Training Weekends and as the Incident Commander. He holds Master Specialty Ratings in Command, Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education, Finance, Administration and Logistics. He also serves as a North Carolina Wing liaison officer to the North Carolina Reserve Component Council, chaired by The Adjutant General of the NC Army National Guard. 

Lt Col Kearns is a native of Brooklyn New York and his professional education includes a Master’s Degree from Campbell University with a focus on financial management.  He is a certified treasury professional and has been recognized by the Association of Financial Professionals several times.  He is employed by ABB., as a treasury manager specializing in foreign exchange, derivatives and risk management for the Americas Region.

A resident of Cary, North Carolina, Lt Col Kearns is married to Patricia and has two children, Brendan, and Brigid, all members of Civil Air Patrol.
